1. Pour oil in a saucepan or stockpot over medium heat. Add in diced onion and cook until translucent. Add in tomato paste, vegetable broth and water.
2 Add the granulated garlic, chili powder, cumin, brown sugar, salt, and pepper to the mixture and stir until well combined.
3 Add the diced tomatoes along with their liquid to the mixture. Cover and simmer on medium heat for 40 minutes. Mix in the kidney beans and cook for additional 10 minutes.
